The school is located in the village of Wernyol in a remote
part of Southern Sudan .The area does not receive aid and the people are very
poor. Students at the school range in age from 6 to 18 years.
They are in need
of the following supplies:
-
Pencils, paper and notebooks
-
Books
-
Tables and Benches
-
Permanent School Building .
Joseph was made aware of the school needs on a
recent visit to Wernyol where he has friends and relatives living. He found the
children want to learn and travel up to ten miles by foot to attend school. The
teacher is a high school graduate. He graduated from a high school in Kenya .
He is one of the "LOST BOYS" who did not have the opportunity to come to
America .
The school building is made of mud and grass and
during the rainy season the building is damaged by heavy rains. Therefore there
is no place to store school supplies
A permanent building could be constructed of bricks
which the people in the village could make. Heavy plastic could be used for
roof. The people of the village could construct the building. This would
involve the people and provide them with some income to help feed their
families.
The challenge is to raise enough money to cover the
cost of :
-
School supplies
-
Building materials
-
Wages for labor
+ Involved in construction of building
+ Delivery of goods
